Campaign Desk - Stylish Alternatives

Before you read my post today, I want you to go {here} and sign up for the giveaway I posted about yesterday.  I'll wait . . .

Great!  You're back.  Here we go:

As you know, I love a good deal.  When I find something I love, I am always curious if I can get a similar look without the price tag.  I came across this Campaign Desk and thought it looked amazing.  I can see this desk placed in front of a large window overlooking a fabulous view, or even behind a sofa (as an alternative to a sofa table giving you a library table look).

The price tag for this piece is $2,750.00.

So, I got busy and found this one.  Similar tone of wood and "X" legs, but feels a bit lighter or thinner  (almost a bit rustic) than the initial find.  The price is better at $599.

Then! I came across this little find.  It is more in keeping with the style of the initial piece - same tone of wood and more substantial (thicker) top.

The price (drum roll please!) - $199.99 (on sale right now).

Here's a closer look.

Anybody in need of a Campaign desk?!! M.

Friday Finds

Here are a few Friday finds I thought were worth mentioning!  These are Craig's List finds around the Birmingham, Alabama.  But, I am confident you can find similar deals in your area if you just search and keep an open mind to alternative uses when you find a piece at the right price.

Small Buffet/Bar Server

This is a great piece that is very versatile and at $99.00 it's a steal of a deal.  The piece is a small buffet server, but you could easily use it as a bed side table in your master or even a bar/server in a den.

If I were going to us this as a bar/server, I would change out the hardware to something bolder.  Maybe this for a traditional look.

Or this for a more modern look.

Vanity/ Child's Desk

This piece is $75.00 (I would offer $50) and then paint the entire piece and add a piece of glass to the top for a hollywood glam look.

Pair of Twin Beds

Here is a basic pair of twin beds for $100.  The lines are curvy and feminine and have tons of potential.  Again, these could be painted any color or you could have pretty slipcovers made (that tie on the sides) and possibly include a monogram.

Here is picture of the slipcover I had in mind.

Armoire/Desk

This armoire is a bit rough; but if you could get it for $100.00 [they are asking $150], you would have a bargain on your hands.  I think this would look great in a bedroom or it could be repurposed as a desk.

I would repaint the entire piece Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige which comes off a bit more caramel than my computer screen is showing.  Then I would add a high gloss lacquer to finish the piece.
Then I would add these long pulls to the front to really bring the piece back to life.

I hope this little shopping excursion has inspired you!  Have a great weekend.

My Thoughts on Chandeliers

I recently found this website through Averill over at  Odi Et Amo.  She did a wonderful post on unexpected websites with great finds.  She mentioned this site as a spot for inexpensive chandeliers, and it did not disappoint.  I took a peek and look what I found.

French Traditional Chandeliers

I simply can not get over these prices.  Also, if you are questioning the quality, you have not looked around lately for fixtures.  Most, unless they are true antiques, have a similar look.

$179.00
http://www.spectrumhome3.com/PurchaseItem.aspx?ChandelierID=32&SpecialTableID=36&Pieces=Chandelier&Name=Wrought%20Iron&sku=A7-C/3033/5&description2=Spectrum

This one looks so similar to my current dining room chandelier, it's scary.
$194.00
http://www.spectrumhome3.com/PurchaseItem.aspx?ChandelierID=977&SpecialTableID=48&Pieces=Chandelier&Name=Country%20French&sku=A83-443/6&description2=Spectrum

I found my chandelier in a local antique shop and paid much more than this for it [suffice it to say, the chandelier was my home purchase for the year].  While mine is a 12 light version, and they have the above fixture in a 12 light version for $327.00 - yes, I said, $327.00.

But, you be the judge.  Here is a picture of my chandelier - at this very moment I have a metallic taste in my mouth, very bitter flavor.

Also, if you like the silicone dipped bulbs that look like a flame in my chandelier, I have a source for these, just email me! They are a great option if you don't want to do shades.

Here is a comparable fixture from one of my favorite sites that is usually known for pretty good deals.  It has, at present, been blown out of the water.

$1,650.00 (12 light version)
http://www.shadesoflight.com/large-favorite-french-crystal-chandelier-12-light.html

This one is a bit more "drippy" with crystals, but if you like that kind of thing, the price is right!
Modern Glam

I don't have a comparable for this one, but I love the look of it.  It has a "hollywood regency meets pagoda" vibe.
$99.00 (under $100.00 !!)
http://www.spectrumhome3.com/PurchaseItem.aspx?ChandelierID=120879&SpecialTableID=69&Pieces=&Name=Empire%20Style&sku=J10-GOLD/742/3&description2=

Another very taste specific look at a great price.
$196.00
http://www.spectrumhome3.com/PurchaseItem.aspx?ChandelierID=45759&SpecialTableID=&Pieces=CHANDELIER&Name=Under%20300&sku=A46-BLACK/3/490/5&description2=A46-BLACK/3/490/5%20Murano%20Venetian%20Style%20JET%20BLACK%20CRYSTAL%20CHANDELIER

Very chic modern fixture that would look great in the right space.
$297.00
http://www.spectrumhome3.com/PurchaseItem.aspx?ChandelierID=46642&SpecialTableID=&Pieces=CHANDELIER&Name=Under%20300&sku=A7-518/11&description2=A7-518/11%20Gallery%20Modern%20/%20Contemporary%2011%20LIGHT%20CRYSTAL%20LIGHTING%20PENDANT

Compared to this one.
$398.00

In fairness, I am not crazy about the wrought iron at the top of this fixture.  It doesn't seem to go with the rest of the fixture.  But this may not be an issue for you, especially for the price.
$249.00
http://www.spectrumhome3.com/PurchaseItem.aspx?ChandelierID=45707&SpecialTableID=&Pieces=CHANDELIER&Name=Under%20300&sku=A9-604/3&description2=A7-604/3%20Country%20French%20CHANDELIER%20Chandeliers,%20Crystal%20Chandelier,%20Crystal%20Chandeliers,%20Lighting

Similar one.
$498.00

Wall Sconces

A pair of these would be so pretty in a powder room on either side of the mirror.  They have a frenchy feel to me.
$54.00

I think lighting is one of those items that you can find less expensive options without sacrificing on the overall look of the room.  You just have to do a little work to find the deals!

J.C. . . is that you?

I hope you are having a great week so far.  My little get away was wonderful.  We had a very relaxing trip, and now I am looking forward to Halloween weekend.  Here's what's on my mind today.

A few years ago, I was looking for a sectional sleeper sofa for our playroom.  I wanted a relaxed slipcover look for the space, but did not want to pay the price for it since I knew it would be totally trashed by my adorable (smile) kids.  During the search, I found a very affordable option at J.C. Penney.

Since then, J.C. has been on my radar.  They seem to be getting it these days.  Check out some of these finds! (P.S. JC Penney is not paying me for all this free advertising, so the pictures are not super clear and you will have to click through to see a larger image).

$899.00 for the chair

It looks a lot like one of my favorite chairs currently on sale for $3,196.00.

I think a pair of these would look great at the end of a bed or even in a den for extra storage.
$129.99 each
$199.99

This is a great deal on an occasional table that would work in a number of rooms.

It has a very similar look to the Colette Bed by Crate and Barrel, but a very different price.
$1,599.00

Here are a couple of other pieces that have lots of potential too.

Sometimes I think you have to think outside the box on where you are looking for furnishings and fabrics.  There are so many options these days and it's really worth doing some research on prices before purchasing.
